Many Blessings for November

At the beginning of 2015, I set on a journey through 1,000 Gifts; little did I know that God was preparing me for one of the hardest things I have experienced at the end of the first month of the year.

On January 30, 2015, I received a phone call that would shift my family into a different path. Cade had suffered an injury caused by rough basketball play in gym class that led to five days in ICU at Atlanta Medical Center.  We were told, your son has a Traumatic Brain Injury; we don't know what he will be like when he wakes up.  I continued my 1,000 gifts journey through Cade's initial recovery.  The 1,000 Gift journey helped me stay focused and thankful.  My gifts and joy seemed to wane as the busyness of life going back to normal got in the way.

Cade's initial recovery was God given.  We saw little to no lasting issues from the accident.  Cade went to college in August 2015.  We were so happy and thankful that he was able to play soccer in college and start his journey.  Shortly after arriving at college, Cade was made a Red Shirt Freshman on a medical basis, while the team doctor decided if Cade could play Soccer after a brain injury.   Cade met every barrier he could on this path.  In January, we got the call that Cade was going to be able to start practicing with the team.  The second semester of his freshman year proved to be tough.  Cognitive issues began to surface with the added stress and physical exertion playing soccer.  When Cade came home for the Summer, we had to re-evaluate his path.

This Summer, Cade worked for Scott doing some erosion control work.  We saw that there were days that he could not get up out of bed or had to return home because of debilitation headaches.  So, we started down another path.  Cade enrolled in school, close by, but only taking a small load and working.   Sometimes the road that we take is not necessarily the way we wanted, but we praise God for the obstacles and forks in the road.  They show us how much we need him.

Other things have changed as well.  In August, we sold our home in Jackson and bought a home in Locust Grove.  So Cullen changed schools as well. August was a big month.  At the end of August, Scott resigned as pastor of the church we served in for five years.  The brothers and sisters there are very dear to us.  Another path in our journey.

So for the Month of November, I am going to count my gifts based off Ann Voskamp's Joy Dare.

Being the month of Thanksgiving, of course, the first day would be about food.

3 Gifts Eaten
1.  Halloween Candy -specifically the Heath Bars in the candy mix at our house last night.
2. Lunch with friends.  It was nice to sit and talk with two wonderful ladies that I don't get to see that often anymore.
3. Deer Tenderloin- for Dinner last night.  That was harvested by Cade in his new found love of sitting in the woods and communing with God.
